Counseling and Wellness for Women

Specialized Counseling & Psychotherapy
to Help You Meet Life’s Challenges and Feel Well

Hello and thank you for visiting. My name is Dr. Nicole Kangas. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Social Psychologist specializing in Women’s Mental Health. I provide counseling for women to help with a wide range of issues including:

  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Stress and Mood Issues
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Work and Life Transitions
  • Work-life Balance
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma Recovery,
  • and More…

My counseling practice also has a special commitment to helping women and their partners with the emotional and psychological issues related to reproductive health, including infertility, postpartum mental healthpregnancy and infant lossbirth trauma, labor anxiety and fears about childbirth, NICU experiences and the challenges associated with parenthood. My passion for working in these areas stems from a unique blend of both personal and professional experience.

You Are Not Alone in The Struggle

It’s common to feel alone when you are struggling with any of these problems that can effect mental health. As a women’s health counselor, I want to create a safe and supportive space for women and their partners to examine their life experiences, address their challenges, and make the changes they desire. I believe that all people are resilient and capable of working through pain and obstacles in order to live their best life.

An Integrated Approach to Women’s Counseling

My integrative, holistic style is specifically tailored to meet each person’s unique needs and goals. I draw upon various evidence-based modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt), mindfulness, positive psychology, humanistic-existential theories, EMDR, and solution-focused therapy. In my work with individuals, couples and groups, I am dedicated to providing an atmosphere of warmth, genuineness, acceptance and respect for each person in order to encourage growth and change. I believe in building upon strengths, and working collaboratively to understand your unique concerns. During sessions, I am active, engaged, and focused on helping you make the changes you desire. I consider it a privilege to be able to help you optimize your mental, emotional, and physical health.

Why Choose a Women’s Counselor?

I understand that deciding to see a therapist is a big investment. Furthermore, finding the “right” person to work with is extremely important. You need someone you can trust not to judge you. Someone who understands what you are going through. Someone who can walk with you and support you as you face life challenges. As a mother, daughter, wife, sister, professional, and woman with a personal history of reproductive struggles, I understand the struggle. I’m familiar and experienced with the challenges women face, and the many areas of life and ways they emerge, including:

  • Family Building
  • Relationships
  • Birth Trauma
  • Loss
  • Transitions
  • Stress
  • Self-doubt
  • Anxiety
  • or the many other complexities that are related to being a woman today.
